The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street - audio drama
I rediscovered some old scripts one afternoon while cleaning out my office. After looking through them, I decided to rewrite a couple that stuck with me. Most of what I do to earn a living is factual and documentary-based filmmaking. However, I am a fan of Sci-fi/fantasy and horror, and rewriting The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street has allowed me the opportunity to express myself in a different creative way.
I entered the script on a whim to several film festivals. I was encouraged when I picked up an award for Best TV Pilot, which was one of four awards I received.
But it wasn’t until I received feedback from a film festival in the USA, the Carnival of Darkness: The Haunted Pamlico Film Festival in Washington, that I felt compelled to rewrite the characters and develop them further. Leading to my embarking on making this project as an audio podcast.
I am very aware of issues around funding, especially drama, and there is never a good time to make something; you never have the funding, or the people or the crew, etc.
I don’t want the script to be left on a shelf and never get made. I have for many years wanted to make a fantasy/horror.
As a filmmaker of maturing years, I’m realistic about the possibilities of getting productions made. So in December 2025, I got a group of people together, some I knew well, some not at all and had the first UK read-through. There had been read-throughs at different film festivals, in different countries, but I’d not been available to attend.
The read-through in December followed another rewrite. I am looking forward to getting started on this in the coming months.
Vampire audio drama/podcast script.
Synopsis:
On a seemingly ordinary Sunday morning, police arrive at Number 80 Crantham Street to arrest Alyssa Rogers for the stabbing of her husband, Paul. To the outside world, the case appears tragically straightforward, a domestic dispute turned violent.
But the story is not told by witnesses or investigators.
Instead, the audience is guided by a strange and ancient narrator who seems to know far more than they should. Through this narrator, the audience is taken back through the unsettling events of the week leading up to the arrest.
