The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street - Nosy Neighbours Scenario

Image
The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street (A Vampire's Tale)  Nosy Neighbours Today, 27th June, I recorded the final group background voice session. This group was made up of members of the Florence Park Players, people I've known for many years, and a former member of the Oxford Theatre Guild. The recording was for the scene surrounding the arrest of Alyssa Rogers, with the neighbourhood gathering outside to speculate about what was happening. The group were amazing and more than happy to immerse themselves in the scene, becoming every bit as gossipy as I'd hoped. I really do appreciate everyone giving up their Saturday morning to help me with this project. They embraced the scenario completely and made it their own. It was wonderful to meet everyone and to have them contribute to bringing my audio drama to life. This marks the final background voice recording session. I now have three more rehearsals with the main cast before the final recordings at Cowley Road Sound St...

The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street - Ladies' Night Out Scenario

Caroline, Jennifer, Jane & Georgie The next rehearsal date is 5th July, but today I recorded the background voices for the scenes in which the police are called out to a disturbance in Crantham Street. The voices were improvised to recreate a group of friends walking home after enjoying a ladies' night out at the pub. There is always something slightly embarrassing about not realising what is going on and making comments that are completely inappropriate to the situation, and this was the scenario we worked on today. All four women did a fabulous job, and it was very kind of them to give up their time on a Saturday afternoon to help bring the scene to life. Next weekend, I will be recording the final section of background voices for the nosy neighbours scene, where a crowd gathers outside as Alyssa is arrested. After that, there will be two more rehearsals before the final recording weekend with the main cast. Ladies' Night Out Cast Caroline Glendinning Georgie Lacey Jane...

The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street - Background Scenarios Police Station

As the rehearsal schedule continues, I find myself raiding my audio library to uncover anything that might enhance this audio drama podcast. However, I made an early decision that, for the main scenes, I wanted to create background atmospheres using genuine voices rather than AI. Of course, some of the background recordings I've found already contain muffled voices, but for the audio environments I create myself, I wanted to use real people and make them sound as authentic as possible. This is why I've scheduled a series of background recording sessions to complement my scenes, including busy offices, street settings and late-night activities, all of them improvised. My first background recording took place on Tuesday, 9th June, with many of the team I work with in my day job. Some readers may already know that I earn a living filming events, meetings, conferences and factual information videos for local government, which is a far cry from the fantasy and horror genre that curr...

Update on Audio Podcast Drama – The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street (A Vampire Tale)

Update on Audio Podcast Drama – The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street (A Vampire Tale) Quite a lot has happened since my last blog and my decision to create an audio podcast adaptation of my short film script of the same name. Following two read-throughs and one-and-a-half rewrites, I have now moved into rehearsals with the cast. Recordings with the background voice artists are scheduled for 9th June, 20th June and 27th June. We are still rehearsing with the main cast, but we have now booked 26th and 27th September for the principal voice recordings. It won't be finished until it's finished, but I feel I am getting closer to the final version of the story. I also believe this talented cast will bring my characters to life in all their weird and wonderful glory. Thank you for following the journey so far. More updates soon! The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street - audio drama

I  rediscovered some old scripts one afternoon while cleaning out my office. After looking through them, I decided to rewrite a couple that stuck with me. Most of what I do to earn a living is factual and documentary-based filmmaking. However, I am a fan of Sci-fi/fantasy and horror, and rewriting The Mysterious Number 80 Crantham Street has allowed me the opportunity to express myself in a different creative way. I entered the script on a whim to several film festivals. I was encouraged when I picked up an award for Best TV Pilot, which was one of four awards I received. But it wasn’t until I received feedback from a film festival in the USA, the Carnival of Darkness: The Haunted Pamlico Film Festival in Washington, that I felt compelled to rewrite the characters and develop them further. Leading to my embarking on making this project as an audio podcast.   I am very aware of issues around funding, especially drama, and there is never a good time to make something; you never ...
